INTRODUCTION

Many aspects of diving safety involve tangible matters — checking your equipment and monitoring your underwater environment, for example. But your safety while diving also depends on an essential but intangible factor — your awareness of your limitations, or what you are and are not capable of. If you disregard those limitations, you will be exposed to increased risks and possibly to injury. You should understand both the nature of your limits and the hazards that exist beyond those limits.
