CHAMBER OPERATOR

This learning opportunity is designed to provide necessary training to candidates, who may or may not have any relevant diving experience, to be able to operate a recompression chamber safely and effectively.

The chamber operator manages all operations outside the chamber and provides treatments as instructed by the DMO (Diving Medical Officer), and according to the prescribed treatment tables.
The chamber operator must remain at the control panel at all times. They should be trained in all the aspects of operating a chamber, the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures - including treatment procedures), and EAPs (Emergency Action Plans).

Implementation of the procedures outlined in this course will ensure safe use of the equipment.

The chamber operator is part of the overall treatment team, which includes the DMO, chamber operator, chamber attendant, assistant operator, and any other supervisory, technical, operational or administrative staff. This person is responsible for operating the chamber, conducting all pre-and post-dive checks, communicating with the chamber attendant, and following instructions from the DMO.

Further details, initial qualification requirements and responsibilities can be found in the Chamber Operator Manual, a resource available later within this section.
