CHAMBER ATTENDANT

This learning opportunity is designed to provide the necessary training to candidates, who may or may not have any relevant diving experience, to be able to attend to a patient inside the chamber, receiving Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for any diving illness.

The chamber attendant (also referred to as a tender) manages all operations inside the chamber and provides treatments as instructed by the DMO (Diving Medical Officer) and supervised by the chamber operator.

This person should be trained in all the aspects attending to a patient, SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures - including treatment procedures), and EAPs (Emergency Action Plans). This includes a degree of medical training to be able to deal with medical treatment procedures, including emergencies.

The attendant is responsible for preparation of the inside of the chamber prior to patient admission, and must know how to operate all internal controls. In particular, the attendant must be trained to manage any fire inside the chamber.

Further details, initial qualification requirements and responsibilities can be found in the Chamber Attendant Manual, a resource available later within this section.
